Max Nilaweli



A characteristic fishing town north of Colombo, it is a mere 6km from the International Airport. Set amid lush groves of coconut palms, it breathes sprit of the sea. Negombo is a gourmet’s paradise with sea food in plenty. Old world fishing craft like the outrigger canoe and the catamaran bring seer, skipjack , herring, and mullet, promfret, and amber-jack while lobster and prawns caught in the lagoon. Apart from beaches and sea-food Negombo has a unique charm of its own with narrow streets, small boutiques and catholic churches dotting the landscape.


Trincomalee is famed for it natural harbour. Described by Admiral Lord Nelson as the finest harbour in the world when he visited abroad HMS Seahore in is ranked as the world’s 5th a largest natural harbour’s, During the 2nd world war the harbour became the base for the combined East Asian fleet of the Allied is the ideal beach resort . All water sports are available here including fishing and sea angling. Whales watching is a specialty. Located at the mouth of Sri Lanka’s longest river Mahaweli Ganga ,Trinco’s most famous landmark is fort Fedric, a century and a half of British fortifications can be found here. The cliff known as Swami Rock on the tip of fort Fedrick’s promontory is associated with a tragic romantic tale woven around a Ducgh maiden who is believed to have jumped to her death from this spot seeing her fickle lover sailing away.

The Thirukoneshwaram kovil which stands on the top most pinnacle of the Swami Rock is a highly venerated Hindu shrine dedicated to Loard Shiva. About 11km from west of trinco are the Kinniyai Hot Springs , Sacred to hindus who believe them to be creation of God Vishnu.ThaDagobaenshiring the hair relics of the Loard Buddha – Tiriyai Dating back to 8th century./AD is a short distance from Trinco’s coast 15 km from Trincomalee – Horowpothana road lies the antionvelgamVihara Temple Dating back to 2 AD.


Described by some as the finest beach on the East Coast this 15 km strech of beach extends from Uppuveli which is 5 km away. With cristal clear blue water and white beaches, Nilaweli beach is a very popular destination amongst sun worshippers. Close to Nilaveli is Red Rock beach – an estuary perch and pinkish colour boulders.

Pigeon Island

A short boat -ride of the beach and you may visit Pigeon Island which lies 2 km off the coast of Nilaveli, great for diving, snorkeling and sea bathing.

You may also visit the recently re-opened Marine Park which was closed for nearly two decades. Visitors could enjoy the rare corals and marine animals and of course during the tour observe the endemic and migrant bird’s species.

The national park extent ends over 450 hectares and wildlife authorities are planning to increase the facilities to visitors in the near future.
